Wendy's Bid for Value contest

Today was the last day of Wendy's 99 cent Bid for Value contest. Some lucky person won a Hyundai 2008 Santa Fe SE. worth $28,000.

"The promotion (the "Promotion") is set up in reverse auction style, whereby each time an entrant submits a bid ("Bid"), a ticker ("Ticker") originating at the Prize's Average Retail Value ("ARV") will reduce in a specified increment (e.g. $1 or $0.01) for each Bid until it reaches $0.99. The entrant whose Bid causes the Ticker to reach $0.99 (as hereinafter defined, the "Successful Bid" and "Successful Bidder'), will win the stated prize (the "Prize"), subject to verification."

At, 2:00PM est, I made my first bid and got this error message but the site was fixed in no time and the contest was underway.

In order to make a bid a random question about Wendy's Restaurant needs to be answered.

If the answer is correct a bid is submitted.

My last successful bid was $1,079.xx something and then the contest was over. :(

Occasionally while bidding, this node error showed up and I had to click the refresh on my browser.

The bidding was slow but the contest was fun because it was different than other contests. As you can see, in the second to last screen capture, Wendy's will have more of these contests in the future. :)

Michael Moore wants you to be a sitting duck

I mostly agree with Michael Moore, especially his position on health care but his attack against the late Charlton Heston and the Second Amendment is downright shameful.

On his website, Moore insinuates that Heston, former NRA president, is somehow responsible for all the shooting deaths in the United States.

I guess Moore wants unlawful people to be able to shoot and terrorize defenseless people at will.

He attacks G. W. Bush for censoring the Constitution and yet he himself wants to censor the Second Amendment, which clearly allows us to own guns.

Make up your mind Michael Moore, do you want to defend our rights or censor them like Bush.

An Enchanted movie

I watched the Disney film, Enchanted, starring Amy Adams and a cute little chipmunk. The film starts out in an animated world with Giselle singing, dancing and talking to animals and she gets engaged to marry the prince. The Queen pushes Giselle into a deep magical hole because she doesn't want her son to get married or she will no longer be the Queen but it didn't work out as planned.

Giselle is magically teleported into the miserable reality of the real world and is no longer animated. The prince, played by James Marsden, jumps into the hole, along with a chipmunk, to try and rescue her. The Queen, played by Susan Sarandon, sends her henchman after them and orders him to destroy Giselle with a poisoned apple.

The acting by all was fair but the best performance was by the chipmunk. That little chipmunk deserves an academy award!

It's a delightful little family film worth seeing.

Just say no to ICANN

It's time for a DNS network that isn't controlled by ICANN. OpenNIC has the right idea but the site appears to be dead. I don't want my personal information in the whois and why should people have to buy their domain names anyway. With a free open-source DNS network people could even create their own TLD zone extensions, such as http://marsha.blog/ or whatever.
ICANN has been dictating the DNS system very poorly, completely ignoring consumers.

It wouldn't be too difficult for volunteers to create another DNS network, please let the revolution begin!

I've been messing with a free, open-source, content management system, named Pligg. It's similar to Digg by letting users submit articles, vote and comment on them. Sounds like they are planning on offering a hosting service so people can have their own pligg site very easily.(read this forum post)

Finding a web host that supports all the needs for a Pligg install is a bit difficult and time consuming but if the founders of Pligg start their own hosting service then this problem will be instantly solved. As long as a person can use their own domain name then I will definitely sign up.

This film isn't great but it's one of the better movies that I've seen in awhile. Has some good action scenes and the ending made me think a bit. The part where Nicolas Cage uses his gift of seeing into the future to try out different approaches on Jessica Biel is funny.

Blogexplosion

I mentioned earlier in one of my posts about my fear that Blogexplosion would become worse after selling it and sadly that is what happened.

People are constantly complaining in the forums of support tickets not being answered, not receiving their pay from Blogcharm, the list goes on and on. I can only hope now that they will come under new management or another owner before their reputation is completely destroyed. I miss the old Blogexplsoion :(

Merge RSS feeds together

With Yahoo Pipes, a person can merge several RSS feeds together into one feed and even filter out user-defined keywords. This free service is really cool but they need more modules and better instructions. I played around with it some today and created a couple RSS feeds.

Upgraded to new Blogger

If you subscribe to my RSS feed and got swamped with a bunch of posts from by Blog, it's because Blogger made me upgrade to the new format today and the RSS feed was upgraded as well. Blame Blogger, not me !! LOL

I'm still using my old template though, I will have to upgrade it someday for the labels and other widgets.

I saw this animated graphic of Snoopy the other day and thought it was cute, so I decided to annoy everyone by putting it in my sidebar. :)

RSS for feedless web sites

Would you like to monitor some web pages in an RSS reader but they don't have a feed?

Lately, I've been using feedity.com, it's a service that will create a free feed for web pages that don't have one and they update the feeds several times a day. It's the easiest one that I have used so far and anyone can easily create a feed for just about any site, no signing-up required.

In order to create and enjoy an RSS feed, all a person has to do is: type or paste in the address (URL) of the page that you want to monitor, then put the address (URL) of the generated RSS feed into your favorite reader. It's that simple and easy to do.

If your looking for a free desktop RSS reader, then I recommend, "Feedreader," but download the beta one because it has a couple extra features and in my experience, works better.

I'm glad that I finally started using RSS feeds, I had no idea how useful they really were.

A free Boss key

A "boss key" is a program that allows a person to quickly hide the current program or desktop that they are using, by pressing user defined key(s).

For example, Karen is at work, using an instant messenger to talk to a friend instead of doing her job. The Boss walks up, Karen quickly taps a key or two making it immediately disappear from the desktop and taskbar before she is caught. The Boss sees her working busily on her assignment.

I quite often use a free one made by Robin Keir, named "Bosskey", and can be downloaded at http://keir.net/.

This one allows me to quickly switch back and forth between several virtual desktops so my screen and taskbar will not be so cluttered up. Ten virtual desktops can be created and each one with as many applications open as necessary.

This free program is less than ten kilobytes in size and does not need to be installed, allowing it to be easily stored on a thumb-drive.

Temporary e-mail address

So, you have a need to use a website once or twice that requires an account and Bugmenot does not help. Your in a hurry and don't want to be bothered with possible junk mail or logging in to a throw away e-mail account.

I know of a couple websites that will give a person a temporary e-mail address without having to sign up or log-in to use. Simply go to "mailinator" or "10 Minute Mail" and copy the temporary address that is given to you. Use that temporary address to create an account with the site you want to access. Return to the temporary address and read the conformation email.

I'm sure their are other sites that do this as well but these are two that I have used with success.

Screen Recorder

Have you ever wondered how people make those video tutorials for software and other programs that show everything the person is doing on their computer screen, while talking to explain what they are doing? They use software called a "screen recorder."

Typing that term into a search engine will bring up several choices to choose from, I tried several different ones and decided on "Camtasia Studio." At first, while recording, the cursor was jerky and lagged some but after going into my PC's control panel: clicking display,settings, advanced,troubleshooting then turning down the graphics hardware accelerator it works perfect.

With a "screen Recorder," a person can quickly make an .avi tutorial video that can be played with just about any media player; then e-mail it to a friend that may need some visual instructions on how to use or set-up a particular software. Of course their are many other uses such as demonstrations, podcasts, etc...

If you don't already have a "Screen Recorder" then I suggest that you get one because they are very useful.

Wow,
I saw Walt Disney's animated film named "cars" and it has everything that makes a great film. Great plot, fantastic characters, romance and an unexpected happy ending. The main character is a famous, rookie race car by the name of "Lightening" who makes it to the championship, Piston Cup race but an unforeseen incident occurs while he is being transported to the big finale. He ends up speeding and destroying the main road of a tiny forgotten town that once flourished because of a beautiful tourist attraction; but it was bypassed years ago by a new highway. He is arrested and ordered to repair the road before he will be set free. The big race is only a few days away and during this time he makes some new friends and learns that there is more to life than just himself.

I loved this film and so will you and your entire family.

Two romantic movies

I enjoyed watching a film the other day named "The Lake House," It's a story about a medical Doctor, played by Sandra Bullock, that falls in love with an architect, played by Keanu Reeves, but the architect is literally living two years in the past. The architect lived in a house on a lake that the Doctor rented two years later and they start communicating with each other through the mail box which somehow transports there letters back and forth to each other through time.

Some parts of the film are little hard to follow but if watched a second time it all makes sense. It's not very often that I enjoy watching a film as much as I did this one.

An older film that I enjoyed watching which involves two people falling in love and live in separate times is named "Somewhere in Time," starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.

I'm liking the Firefox web browser more and more, especially since I learned about an extension named Greasemonkey that allows a userscript by the name of Autoclick to function. With Autoclick installed all a person needs to do is hover over a link on a web page for 1.5 seconds and it will automatically open the link without clicking! Of course, if I'm really in a hurry, I can still click the link like before.

First install the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox then install the Autoclick userscript. I believe Greasemonkey is available for IE as well but I haven't tried it.

That's all there is to it. :)

Disposable personal organizer

I downloaded a really useful program the other day named, "The Pocketmod." It's a disposable personal organizer that is created by printing out a single sheet of paper containing six pre-made templates, then folding it a certain way to become a small six page booklet. Some of the templates included in the free program are: a template for in case of an emergency (which includes contact information,your blood type and other special instructions), an appointment timesheet, planners, shopping lists, food diary, games (such as Soduko, Dots etc...) and many more useful templates. It is a free program with all the instructions included and is one of those small discoveries that brightens a person's day by making things a little easier.

Deleting an undeletable windows folder

I recently had this folder on my pc that would not delete no matter what I tried and it was driving me crazy. After searching the internet for a solution I ran across a free program named Unlocker 1.8.3 available for download from Softpedia. All I had to do was right click on the folder and select the unlocker option, a dialog box said the folder was not locked but it could still help me. Unlocker gave me some more options and I chose to delete the folder, in a few seconds more the folder was finally deleted. Yay!!

There's a generator for creating a "Dummies" book cover, advice, road signs, the list goes on and on. If you have some time to kill it's definitely worth taking a look. :)

My latest project

A couple of days ago I started learning how to create skins for the Window's Media Player. WMP uses XML and Java scripts, both of which I know very little of. I'm frustrated that there isn't more tutorials and information about skinning WMP. Microsoft has a free downloadable skinning guide and tutorial named Windows Media SDK( software development kit). I can make a basic skin with buttons and video that work but haven't learned how to make make it resizable yet for watching videos. The skins that come with the Media Player are basically broken up into four corner pieces and four side pieces. The side pieces are tiles that expand and contract when resizing the window. I will have to learn more Java in order to achieve my goal. There appears to be a lot more tutorials and information on skinning Winamp so I'll be looking at those to see what I can or can't learn, and speaking of Winamp, Leo's Lyrics has a great plugin that displays the lyrics for whatever song your playing. Anyone can submit song lyrics to Leo's data base, I submitted the lyrics to several of my favorite songs. Anyways, learning to skin is my latest project and I already pulled half of my hair off my head !! Oh well, if I go bald form this project at least I won't have to pay for anymore haircuts. :)

The National Wildlife Federation (U.S.A.) has a monthly photograph caption contest. All you have to do is figure out a winning caption for the current photograph and enter it through their website. This month's photo is of a squirrel(I think it's a squirrel). The prize is a Fujifilm Quicksnap disposable camera and The Deluxe 2 DVD Collection, "Wildlife Survivors": As seen on TBS & Animal Planet. Entering caption contests is always a lot of fun. I discovered a handy little program for finding and grabbing colors for use on my blog. If you see a color on your computer's screen that you want to use, simply drag your cursor onto it and the number for that color will be displayed. The color can be saved for later reference by pressing a couple keys. The area under your cursor is magnified, so you can grab colors from small detailed graphics as well. It has several other handy features too. The name of this program is Colorpic and it is a free program form Iconico. I wanted to share this information because I have found it to be so useful.

Do these words sound a little familiar?Yep, you guessed it.Bob Denver,the actor that played Gilligan on Gilligan's Island.I just heard the news a few hours ago that he has passed away.

I fell in love with the television show when I was in grade school and wacthed it on our very first T.V.for the first time.My parents bought a large black and white console television that had a remote control connected to it through a long cable.The remote control was cylinder shaped and had one large button sticking out of the top of it,when pressed down a loud whirrrring sound would come from the t.v. and the knob would rotate through all thirteen channels one by one.Everytime it stopped on a channel it would make loud clunk!! sound that could be heard through half the house,even when the knob was turned manually.Yes,believe or not,television sets used to only have thirteen channels.We could only receive about three of the channels though with the rabbit ears antenna.We got caught many times trying to watch when we weren't supposed to because the knob was so loud.

I come from a large family and Gilligan's island was one those shows that no one complained about when someone turned it on.I even liked the cartoon series of Gilligan's island.

There is a chatroom service that I really like a lot called Paltalk and I've had an account with them for close to two years.Within this time period I have made several good internet friends that I still communicate with on a regular basis.Paltalk has several chatroom categories to chose from and my favorite is the music rooms.In these music rooms a person can play and or sing songs,some rooms don't let people sing so to be sure to read the rules of the particular room you enter.You can talk privately with other members by either text or microphone.A person can upload and download files from each other as well.A person can easily and quickly create their own chatroom.There is a room for Just about any type of music your interested in.I have literally met and spoken to people from all around the world.

I met one wonderful person who grew up in Hawaii and had just gotten back from visiting her family there.She created her own music room and played a lot of Hawaiian music and songs which I really enjoyed listening to(I'm not Hawaiian).I've heard music and songs from around the world through Paltalk.

One person got me interested in the game called Cribbage and I play cribbage with them online from time to time.

I will sometimes pop into the computer help rooms to see what I can learn.

So, if your bored and don't have anything better to do you might give Paltalk a try.If you have an older computer,I recommend that you use a banner blocker because these banners that are displayed with the free accounts can affect the quality of your sound.

bannerpower.com,an advertisement rotation service,is not working correctly.According to the user's agreement they are only supposed to display their advertisements five percent of the time.On June 19,2005 I noticed that bannerpower.com kept displaying their own advertisements and none of mine on my Blog.I sent them an e-mail and left a question for them on their forum's board about the problem.Other users are asking about this problem too.As of today I have not received any replies to my questions from bannerpower.com and their service is still not working correctly,so I had to remove their service from my Blog.I will use this service again if and when it is fixed.

If you or someone you know is using Bannerpower,I strongly suggest that you check your site to see if the service is working correctly.

Yahoo has added my Blog to their search engine!!I submitted my Blog to several search engines and so far Yahoo is the only one that has added me.Recently I read an article that said if you add your Blog's RSS feed to your Yahoo homepage that Yahoo would crawl your website or Blog within 48 hours and add it to their search engine.The article also said that MSN would do the same if your RSS feed was added to your MSN homepage.MSN hasn't added my Blog yet and I added it to my MSN homepage about a week ago.
To add your Blog to your yahoo or MSN's homepage,create a free account with them ,if you don't already have one and click the add content link on your homepage.Then type in the RSS feed url for your Blog or website.
The article that I read can be found at this link, http://theiwe.blogspot.com/2005/04/how-to-get-your-blogs-site-feed-listed.html,it explains step by step in easy to understand terms on how to do so.
I don't know for sure if this is why Yahoo added my Blog or not,but it was on their search engine within a couple days after I followed the instructions in the article.

Amber Alert ticker

I saw a ticker on someone else's Blog called "Code Amber Alert."If a child is missing,this ticker will turn an amber color and will give brief details.You can get the full details by clicking on the ticker and going to Code Amber Alert's web page.I placed this ticker at the top of this Blog.I didn't know that this ticker existed,but then I am very new to Blogging.If anyone wants to put this on their Blog or web page,just click the banner and go to the website for instructions.

Does anyone know where I can get the HTML code for a banner rotator that will work on Blogs?
The stuff that I have found so far will not work with Blogger.If you leave a message telling me where to get one,I would most grateful.

Because of my allergies, I can't tolerate perfumes.The name of the laundry detergent that I've been using is "All-Free Clear" the liquid kind,It is manufactured by a company named Unileverna.It's free of perfumes.After I wash my clothes with"All" ,I have to wash them a couple of more times with just plain water,no detergents,in order to get the detergent fumes completely out of them.I've tried several brands and this is the detergent that I can tolerate the most.Does anyone else in this world have to wash their clothes an extra two times without laundry detergent?

Toothpaste

As I mentioned Earlier in one of my posts,I have a lot allergies and because of this I have a very difficult time finding products I can tolerate.Finding toothpaste that I can use has turned into a huge problem for me.The odors and/or taste are just too strong for me.One of my sisters told me about a brand of toothpaste that they use called, biotene.Biotene's original flavor toothpaste says that it's for people with dry mouth.I don't have dry mouth but I'm able to use it just fine.In my opinion the odor and taste is quite mild.The best thing about this toothpaste is that I can tolerate it !!!

Today is Mother's day here in the United States and my Mom is enjoying all the gifts and phone calls that she's receiving from my Dad,five brothers and three sisters.

Elastic compression bandages

Because I have Lymphedema(swollen legs), I have to wrap my legs with elastic compression bandages in order to help keep the swelling down. I also have super bad allergies especially to chemicals,this fact has made it difficult for me to find products that don't cause allergic reactions. I have tried several different brands of Elastic Bandages and was not able to tolerate them, untill my family bought some through the internet from a company named medicalmailorder.com. The name of the bandages are Supra-Grip. After we washed them a couple times and they hung outside for a couple days I was able to tollerate them. I tried this with other brands and still wasn't able to tolerate them. These Supra-Grip elastic compression bandages have velcro on each end, which makes them very easy to fasten.
I hope that this information will be helpful to someone who reads this. This is one of the reasons that I started this Blog.

My new adjustable bed

Hi, I am a disabled person and my family recently purchased me a semi- electric, Invacare adjustable bed.The bed is a couple inches lower in the midddle because of the way it was poorly designed.This means the mattress is lower in the middle ,kind of like a hammock.I have no Idea why Invacare designed it that way.The bed rails are divided in half and are held together in the middle with a couple bolts.
Because of this it does not have adequate support in the middle of the bed,so my family purchased a couple floor jacks to put under the bed on each side in the middle.
Although this gives the bed the support that it lacked, it still bows down in the middle because of the poor design.
Inavcare only makes two different kinds of mattresses,springs or foam rubber.The mattress I have is the springs and it is way to soft for me.We are now searching for an adjustable, extra firm,spring mattress.I am hoping that we can find one from another manufacturer that makes adjustable beds.
The head and foot can be raised and lowered by a push of a button.I am very pleased at how quiet the motors are.I can barely hear them.
The reason we didn't return the bed is because this was the only one my family could afford and I'm not on disability income yet and don't have medicaid yet either.I'm sure glad Invacare is making an affordable adjustable bed.
Once I a get an extra firm mattress,I'm sure I will be very pleased.
